MAINTAINING OUR CREATIVE FREEDOM

Maintaining creative freedom in our work is one of the most challenging things that we face. We often feel like we are ‘swimming against the tide’ which is fine with us (as artists), but sometimes the natural ebb and flow of the waters feel like an unnatural flood.

This week the full force of the ‘Online Safety Act’ has come into effect. We support this (in principle). We believe that certain things should only be seen by consenting adults. However, the interpretation of this act is where problems can arise. What one may deem as being 'harmful' or 'taboo' another may not. We believe that freedom of speech and freedom of expression must be maintained in all areas of life but unfortunately the subjectivity of this area has not been fully considered throughout the implementation of this online safety bill.

We are now (all) left to negotiate this tricky area and most likely spending much of our time reassuring people (and OFCOM) that they don’t necessarily have to be outraged by some of our work. It's most important (for us) to find appropriate outlets to express ourselves within the most suitable environments but with the UK government hot on our heels it's becoming harder to do so: to say and do whatever we feel best serves the creative flow.

One thing is for sure however - we'll keep chipping away - and if you don't like what we do: think happy thoughts x
