Ben says: ‘scream I am a Grumpet and then I’m not a Grumpet into the microphone'
I (Lucy) say: ‘what is a Grumpet?’
Ben says: ‘could you just sing the lyrics?’

I did indeed sing the lyrics and I loved every minute of doing so. I also watch and listen over the hours/days/weeks/months of work that Ben puts into these projects as he brings his characters to life (in sound and vision). It's a fascinating process but I still have no idea what a Grumpet is. In a way I really don't need to know what any of it means. Ben has a very clear idea of what he wants to say and that creative conviction is good enough for me. I throw my all into the process and it's an emotional buzz - true art (for me) - yet I remain clueless and without answers.

For me a GRUMPET is symbolic of an unleashed, raw and unrelenting energy. This (of course) is guess work. I have always felt a simmering energy inside of myself. Perhaps I AM A GRUMPET carrying an intensity, a passion - sometimes anger. But I'm a ‘nice girl’ - perhaps I'M NOT A GRUMPET' sketching sweetly in the hills and submitting to the scene. Either way I win/lose.

I loved making Grumpet. It's epic, grungy and colourful. I loved throwing my body about, running wild - feral! It represents everything we should and shouldn't feel. Troubling yet beautiful and completely exhilarating!
