SISTERS WITH NOTHING TO HIDE

Me and my sister choose to be naked in each others company. It feels very natural for us both to 'disrobe' when we get together. Our nudity represents the mutual trust that we both feel for one another. We talk, we get creative (we're both artists), we have a laugh - we relax! No clothes, no egos - I feel very grateful for this naked time with my sister.

My sister is beautiful, brave, creative and kind. I feel very proud of her. She's an incredible artist and a brilliant mum.  She produces body positive self portraits alongside a wide collection of self produced paintings, sketches and illustrations. Each piece of art is amazing and demonstrates her vivid imagination. She’s also incredibly open minded and instantly accepted my naked endeavours when I first brought the concept to her (quite a few years ago). We had never even seen each other naked at that point but she was very supportive and didn’t judge me. In-fact it wasn’t long before she was joining me for naked walks along the beach, life modelling, photo-shoots as well as featuring alongside me in naked performance art events. Being naked in each others company soon became a very normal thing for us to do which is evident from the large ‘body’ of nude-works that we have jointly contributed to, which includes another episode for my LUCY MUSE & FRIENDS series. This series is a celebration of the human condition and it’s always great to feature my sister.

I love how body-positive my sister is. I'm not sure to what extent that she realises how inspiring her attitude is. Even if she’s not naked (with me), she’s eye catching thanks to her colourful style. I say colourful and I mean colourful – always bright, vibrant, bold, eclectic, alternative and fun...this is despite difficulties in her life that she has tackled head-on.

My sister had a particularly difficult experience of becoming a mother. She gave birth during lockdown in rather traumatic circumstances. She didn't have in-person support from close family during this time. She has suffered from post-natal depression since these experiences. I know it hasn’t been easy for her. My sister could have suffered silently but she chose to bravely speak out. She has documented and shared her experiences with other people in a way that has served to help herself, as well as reaching out to others who may be going through the same thing. She has initiated a conversation so that those who may need it may benefit.

She hasn’t hesitated to speak about her experiences with full and honest detail in a public setting with me during podcasts and video shoots. She has never held back. She has never hidden her emotions. She has always been very honest about her feelings even in a very stark way. She has courageously laid herself both physically and emotionally bare. In our mutually naked state me and my sister have engaged in real conversations about the good, the bad and the ugly. It's hard not to be honest when sitting next to my sister whilst naked. There is literally nothing to hide.

This is an open letter of thanks to my sister. Thank you for your honest naked expression. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for giving me the chance to build a stronger understanding of who you are. Thank you for not judging me. For that I will always respect and love you.
